Thankful for the Trust: A Thanksgiving Message from the Bethany Animal Hospital Family
Celebrating the pets we cherish, the families we serve, and the privilege of being part of your lives this Thanksgiving.

As Thanksgiving approaches, the entire team at Bethany Animal Hospital wants to pause and say a heartfelt thank you. To every current and past client who has trusted us with your dogs, cats, and exotic pets, thank you for choosing the Bethany Animal Hospital family for your veterinary needs. Your confidence in us is the greatest gift we receive all year.
Since 1959 our family has cared for pets throughout Sycamore, DeKalb, and the surrounding communities. We consider our amazing team a family of its own in many ways. We are fortunate to have staff members who have celebrated 18-, 25-, 26-, and 60-year anniversaries with us this year! Additionally, we are also proud to be family owned since our beginnings. In 1959, Berni and Russell Schelkopf purchased Haxby Veterinary Clinic on Route 64 in Sycamore, marking the beginning of what would become a multigenerational family veterinary practice.
What has never changed is our commitment to treating every pet as if they were our own. Being AAHA-accredited, Feline Friendly, and Fear Free helps us create a calmer, more positive experience—especially for pets who get anxious at the vet. From wellness visits and advanced diagnostics to orthopedic surgery, ultrasound, canine rehabilitation, and exotic pet care, we are honored to walk alongside you through every stage of your pet’s life.
Why Families Love and Recommend Bethany Animal Hospital
We are deeply grateful for the kind words shared on Google and elsewhere. Clients consistently highlight the same reasons they trust and recommend us:
● Genuine compassion and care. Many pet parents tell us the staff and veterinarians treat their animals with real kindness and patience. Through Cat Friendly and Fear Free practices, we strive to handle anxious, aggressive, or stressed pets with the upmost compassion. Additionally, we strive to extend that same care to owners, especially through difficult news, decisions, and appointments.
● Experienced, thorough veterinarians and a dedicated team. Clients praise our doctors for thorough exams, clear communication, and expertise in unique areas, like exotic pet medicine, ultrasound, and orthopedic surgery.
● Long-term relationships built on trust. We are proud that so many families have been with us for a decade or more. They describe Bethany as a true partner in their pets’ lives, with experienced staff they have come to rely on year after year. Recent updates to our facilities have only strengthened that positive experience.
● Advanced care close to home. Pet owners appreciate having services like canine rehabilitation, nutrition counseling, behavioral care, and more close to home.
We take huge pride in the kind words our clients provide to us through these reviews, and we are thankful this feedback continues to be a reason so many people recommend Bethany Animal Hospital to friends, family, and neighbors.
Our Thanksgiving Wish for You and Your Pets
This Thanksgiving, we are thankful for the pets who become familiar faces to us. We are thankful to greet and know our clients like friends sharing in, of course, the journey of their pets’ lives, but also in conversations about their family, successes, and struggles. We are thankful for those warm and exciting new puppy and kitten visits, and we are equally thankful when a client trusts us to help them make the difficult decision to provide respectful and compassionate end of life care. We are thankful for every client that has offered their generous thanks to us this year in the form of kind words, cards, and treats. And, most of all, we are thankful for the chance to continue serving you.
Whether you are a longtime client or someone who has visited us in the past, please know how much your trust means to our family-owned team. We hope your holiday is filled with warmth, good company, and plenty of quiet moments with the pets you love.
From all of us at Bethany Animal Hospital: Happy Thanksgiving. We are grateful for you.
