Mike Schelkopf, DVM

Owner

Dr. Mike is a second-generation owner of Bethany Animal Hospital, following his parents, Berni and Russell, who purchased the practice in 1959. He received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 1978.


Dr. Mike, Dr. Charles Schelkopf, and Dr. Deborah Schelkopf have together been integral to the clinic’s growth and success over the years. Their dedication, leadership, and commitment to both patients and people have helped shape the clinic into what it is today.


Dr. Mike began his career practicing large animal medicine before focusing on swine health. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, American Animal Hospital Association, and the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Mike is deeply committed to supporting and developing the clinic team while creating a welcoming, high-quality experience for Bethany’s clients and animals.


Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his adult children, his two young granddaughters, and several other family members.
